This watch keeps good time & is in good working condition! Add this to your collection of vintage quality timepieces!
This MORTIMA Super Datomatic Explorer features broad-arrow hands & a sturdy explorer case. Though primitive, its design is bold & daring - featuring a dual bezel (black ring rotates while silver ring is fixed) & a rotating tachymeter.
The MORTIMA watch label was owned by French company Cattin & Cie, which later migrated operations to Switzerland. MORTIMA was discontinued after the "quartz watch meltdown" in the early 1980s, but Cattin & Cie persists to create private label watches today. Their limited production makes these watches very rare & highly sought after!
Mortima, together with Sicura, is one of the most important brands if you are interested in affordable watches from the 1960’s and 1970’s. Mortima was a French brand from the company Cattin & Cie in Morteau.
The city of Morteau is located in east France very near the Swiss border and the famous watch valley La Chaux-de-Fonds. Morteau itself has a rich history of watchmaking dating back to 1750, and is today home to a watch museum. The name Mortima was probably inspired by the city name Morteau and the English word for time.
Césaire Émile Cattin was born in Morteau in 1904 and was only 25 years old when he founded his watch company Cattin & Cie.
